Celebrating our Amazing Volunteers during Volunteers' Week

The staff at UKHarvest were absolutely delighted to welcome 45 of our fantastic volunteers to our Volunteers’ Celebration during Volunteers Week in June.

Over two events on 3rd June, members of our volunteer team came to enjoy a special celebration event at UKHarvest HQ with cake and a good catch up with one another, including members of staff.

Carrie, our volunteer coordinator at UKHarvest, delivered a short presentation celebrating the huge achievements made over the last year across all areas of volunteering. We signed up to take part in the radio competition, ‘Battle of the Businesses’ on V2 Radio over Volunteers’ Week giving us a platform to shout about our incredible volunteers. This took place during the morning celebration, so our volunteers were able to help answer ten general knowledge questions in one minute, while sharing homemade refreshments made by our amazing kitchen manager Sarah.

Our celebrations will never be enough to truly showcase how important and impactful our volunteers are. Without their tireless support, we would not be able to reach so many people with our rescued surplus food.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT GIVES THEIR TIME TO SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY.

Carrie, who works closely with our volunteers, shared that ‘Our volunteers are some of the most dedicated and passionate people I’ve worked with. From our Community Food Hub regulars to the wonderful individuals that sort our peppers in the warehouse, they make my job so enjoyable. Thank you for showing up every single day and showing me the value in volunteering.’

We asked some of our volunteers why they volunteer for UKHarvest.

“The main reason I decided to volunteer is to help reduce food waste and I love the fact that all the food that is donated to UK Harvest, is available to anyone and everyone to come and shop and enjoy.”

“So, I volunteer because my world is “food glorious food” so “waste no waste” is hand in hand. Then UK Harvest fit those criteria. Plus, it’s run by fantastic people who believe in their work.”

“I like the Community spirit in the hub. Everyone works really well together, and it's so good to see all the lovely food going to local people and not going into landfill.”
