UKHarvest to launch a 'pay as you feel' restaurant in Chichester

On Wednesday, 20 September 2017, UKHarvest will open the doors to its ‘Nourish’ pop-up restaurant for the first time at Saint Paul’s Church in Chichester.

At Nourish, 50 guests will be served a hot, sit-down dinner prepared by local young people and volunteers from quality surplus food which otherwise would have ended up in landfill.

The pop-up is open to everyone in the community and will operate on a ‘pay as you feel’ system, where guests can pay what they can on the evening. All funds raised will be donated to UKHarvest to continue its work in food rescue, education and engagement as well as ensure sustainability of the project.

With one in four low-income households in the UK struggling to eat regularly or healthily[1], UKHarvest aims to provide all members of the community the opportunity for access to a good quality, nutritious meal cooked with care, using a portion of the food rescued by the charity from local donors.

UKHarvest CEO & Founder, Yvonne Thomson, says “The dinners not only aim to raise awareness on the scale of food waste in the UK and provide a hot meal for vulnerable people in the community, but also to create training opportunities for young people in cooking and hospitality.”

Earlier this year, UKHarvest piloted a series of similar dinners in collaboration with Chichester College, feeding 40-50 vulnerable people recognised as food insecure at each.

The organisation has plans to open Nourish up to three times weekly for lunch and dinner at various locations around Chichester. The first pop-up will take place at 6:00pm at Saint Paul’s Church on 20 September. Guests are required to register their seat online HERE or call 0333 305 7777 for further information.
